Even as the monsoon hasn’t peaked yet in Mumbai, tree falling incidents have already been on the rise this year.
According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s latest report, a 45-year-old man was critically injured after a roadside tree fell on him in the Worli area of central Mumbai.
The incident took place on Monday, July 1, in Jambori Maidan Lane, near BDD Chawl No. 89 in Worli, civic officials stated.
The local police, BMC and Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) officials rushed to the spot immediately after the incident was reported. Soon, they launched rescue and relief operations.
“The incident was reported to the BMC at around 1 pm, the investigations revealed that the tree had fallen in Worli at around 9:30 am,” officials added.
The victim has been identified as Amit Jagtap. He was immediately shifted to the Global hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment and his condition is critical.
Similarly, last week, on Friday, June 28, Mumbai witnessed 24 incidents of tree or branch fall, four of short circuit and two of wall collapse following moderate to heavy rainfalls. However, there is no report of any casualties or injury to anyone, according to the civic disaster management department.
Meanwhile, the civic body had received 106 complaints of trees being uprooted or branches falling between June 9-22. To avoid such mishaps during monsoon, the BMC had set a goal for itself this year to prune 1.11 lakh trees between April and June.
