Special Initiatives Launched at Satara District Jail
Recently, a series of programs and camps were organized at Satara District Jail by the Samata Foundation Mumbai. The event was attended by Amitabh Gupta, Additional Director General of Police, Prisons Department, who inaugurated various activities and distributed Ayushman Bharat Cards and e-Shram Cards. The event was also graced by the presence of Satara District Superintendent of Police Sameer Shaikh and Jail Superintendent Shamkant Shedge, along with officials from the Samata Foundation.
Here are some of the initiatives launched at Satara District Jail:
1. **Online Interview Room:** An e-interview room was inaugurated to facilitate inmates to communicate with their families via video conferencing. This initiative aims to foster better connections between inmates and their relatives.
2. **Ayushman Bharat Card:** 71 convicts were issued Ayushman Bharat cards, providing them and their families access to free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh after their release.
3. **E-Shram Card:** 10 prisoners were issued E-Shram cards, providing insurance coverage of up to Rs 1 lakh in case of work-related accidents after their release, and financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh in case of accidental death.
4. **Skin Checkup Camp:** A free skin check-up camp was conducted for all inmates, with 24 individuals receiving treatment for vitiligo.
5. **Eye Check-up Camp:** An eye check-up camp was organized, with 34 prisoners receiving medical treatment and free spectacles distributed to those in need.
6. **Distribution of Bhajan and Sports Materials:** Various entertainment and devotional materials, including musical instruments and sports equipment, were provided to inmates to encourage positive activities and discourage criminal behavior.
7. **Sanitary Napkin Distribution:** Sanitary napkins were donated for the health and hygiene of female prisoners.
Amitabh Gupta has introduced several schemes and facilities for prisoners, including personal spending allowances, direct communication with relatives, and improved sleeping facilities. These initiatives aim to promote rehabilitation and reformation among inmates, fostering a sense of positivity and hope for their future.
