Tribunal postpones hearing date for Ola, Uber license permits to June 18; companies in limbo
The fate of Ola and Uber in Pune remains uncertain as the State Transport Appellate Tribunal (SAT) has rescheduled the hearing for Ola and uber license permit to June 18, extending the period of legal limbo for the ride-hailing companies.
As per information, following the denial of permission by the Pune Road Traffic Authority, Ola and Uber were granted 30 days to appeal in the tribunal. However, despite the deadline expiring, the tribunal convened on April 22, 2024, without reaching a verdict. Disappointingly, the next hearing is scheduled for June 18.
This prolonged delay has raised concerns among workers and observers alike. There is a growing sentiment that Ola and Uber are being allowed to continue operating without a valid license until the end of June 2024.
Dr. Keshav Nana Kshirsagar, President of the Indian Gig Workers Forum, expressed frustration over the situation. He emphasized the detrimental impact of such prolonged legal uncertainties, enabling companies to flout regulations and disregard the law.
The delay has prompted public outcry, with stakeholders calling for urgent action to address the regulatory issues surrounding operation of Ola and Uber in Pune.
