The highly-acclaimed ‘Scam’ web series is set to make a comeback on SonyLIV, with its third installment delving into yet another major investor fraud controversy. Creator Hansal Mehta revealed the new subject in a recent social media post, exciting fans and followers.

Overview of the ‘Scam’ Series

The ‘Scam’ series has garnered a significant following, starting with “Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story,” which explored the infamous 1992 Indian stock market scam. This installment was based on the book “The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away” by journalists Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu. Pratik Gandhi’s portrayal of Harshad Mehta received widespread acclaim, and the series’ theme music became a sensation. The series was co-directed by Hansal Mehta and Jai Mehta.

The second installment, “Scam 2003: The Telgi Story,” focused on Abdul Karim Telgi’s counterfeit stamp paper scam in the early 2000s, based on Sanjay Singh’s book “Telgi Scam: Reporter’s ki Diary.” Gagan Dev Riar’s portrayal of Telgi, alongside performances by Bollywood actors Mukesh Tiwari, Bhavana Balsavar, Aman Verma, and Iravati Harshe, was highly praised.

Introducing Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga

The third installment, titled “Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga,” will chronicle the Sahara India Pariwar investor fraud case. This scandal involved the unauthorized raising of funds through optionally fully convertible debentures (OFCDs) by two Sahara companies, as deemed illegal by SEBI. The series will be based on the book “Sahara: The Untold Story” by Tamal Bandyopadhyay.

Official Announcement and Expectations

Hansal Mehta expressed his excitement about the new series, stating, “Scam is not just a franchise for me. It is a chronicling of our times. I’m thrilled to collaborate again with Applause and SonyLIV to bring this larger-than-life story alive.”

The SonyLIV series will be produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Studio Next, with Hansal Mehta at the helm. The story will follow Subrata Roy’s dramatic rise and fall, covering accusations from chit-fund manipulations to fake investors, leading to his arrest in 2014. Notably, approximately ₹25,000 crore remains unclaimed with government authorities, highlighting the ongoing impact of the scam.

Danish Khan of SonyLIV expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “We are delighted to work with Hansal Mehta and Applause Entertainment for the next ‘Scam’ series.”
