Date: July 3, 2024
The opening of the much-awaited double-decker flyover connecting Andheri (West) to Jogeshwari (East) has been pushed till June 2026.
According to the latest report, the construction of the 5.08 km long flyover is progressing rapidly with 78 percent of physical progress done to date.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had proposed a flyover from New Link Road (near Infinity Mall) in Andheri West to Poonam Nagar, JVLR, Jogeshwari East to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity. However, due to overlap with Metro Line 6, the civic body transferred the construction of the flyover to the MMRDA.
As per sources, of the total flyover length, the construction work on the 0.93 km has already been completed by the BMC. Now, the MMRDA is constructing the remaining portion, which includes a 2.58 km double-decker flyover. The first level will be for vehicles and the second level for Metro Line 6. Meanwhile, 1.57 km of the flyover is a single-level structure, including a cable-stayed bridge crossing over the Western Express Highway (WEH) and Metro Line 7, which has 13 per cent physical progress.
Currently, motorists traveling from Swami Samarth Nagar in Andheri West to JVLR in Jogeshwari East are facing delays due to traffic signals and congestion at the SV Road junction and Western Express Highway (WEH).
