Taking inspiration from Mumbai’s iconic dabbawala, a startup in London has launched a tiffin service in an attempt to change the food delivery system in the city.
Launched in 2018 by two women — Renee and Anshu, who have Indian roots & originate from Mumbai – Dabbadrop has initiated a zero-waste approach and avoids the utilization of single-use plastic containers for food packaging.
A video going viral online depicts the UK-based business employing classic Indian steel tiffin boxes filled with Indian foods such as paneer sabzi, mixed vegetables, and rice.
“We’ve been in operation for almost SIX years now! How time flies. So far we’ve saved over
375,660 plastic takeaway containers from being used and we’ve only just begun!! Somewhere in the not-so-distant future we hope to go NATIONWIDE – spreading DabbaDrop love across the UK,” the owners said in a video shared on Instagram.
Their clip has also garnered lots of likes, shares and reactions including industrialists like Anand Mahindra.
No better—or more ‘delicious’—evidence of reverse colonization!

However, their menu is not limited to Indian food, they also serve famous dishes from other Asian countries.
As per reports, the food is delivered at the doorstep by their cyclist within 30 minutes in the steel tiffin, which is reusable.
