In its new tourism policy, the Maharashtra government aims to create 50 sustainable tourism sites across the state. This will create direct and indirect jobs in both rural and urban areas. With this, the government is likely to generate 1.8 lakh jobs and attract INR 1 lakh crore in investment.
Moreover, the goal of this ambitious plan is to double the number of tourists over the next 10 years and establish the state as a top travel destination.
A special task force called Tourism Mitra Dal will be appointed by the Maharashtra Security Force to maintain safe tourism.
It is pertinent to note that this policy will also offer several incentives such as CGST tax refunds, electricity tariff discounts and stamp tax reductions. Micro, small, and medium-sized businesses will benefit from these financial advantages.
The policy focuses on coastal tourism, rural tourism, adventure tourism, spiritual tourism, eco-tourism, wellness tourism, and culture and heritage tourism.
Coastal and riverine tourism includes initiatives to increase cruise and houseboat tourism on rivers like Godavari and Narmada for a unique experience.
The policy will also include inland reservoirs in the Konkan, Nashik, Pune, and Nagpur regions.
For skill development, the policy provides incentives for training programs in tourism and hospitality. It also focuses on information and communication technology empowerment. The revival of rare arts and cultures is another focus.
The policy document mentions the promotion of rural tourism and homestays. The policy will revive artistic and cultural traditions.
Additionally, a special “Meetings Incentives Conferences and Exhibitions” (MICE) Center will be established to encourage international companies to hold conferences, conventions, and events in the state.
