A devastating plane crash in Nepal has left at least 18 people dead after a Saurya Airlines aircraft, carrying 19 individuals including the aircrew, crashed shortly after taking off from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning. The Pokhara-bound flight, identified as 9N-AME (CRJ 200), encountered trouble soon after departure, leading to the tragic accident.

Visuals from the incident quickly surfaced on social media, capturing the final moments of the ill-fated aircraft. One video depicted the plane making a sharp turn at high speed, while another showed thick black smoke rising from the wreckage post-crash. Photos also revealed the aircraft’s severely damaged fuselage.

Nepal Police responded promptly, rescuing at least four individuals from the wreckage. Among the survivors was the plane’s pilot, 37-year-old Manish Shakya, who was taken to a nearby hospital in Sinamangal for treatment.

The aircraft, originally belonging to India’s Kuber Group, was acquired by Saurya Airlines in 2019. Following the crash, authorities shut down Tribhuvan International Airport, causing significant disruptions to both international and domestic flights.

TIA Spokesperson Subash Jha reported that the accident occurred due to a runway excursion during takeoff. The incident has led to an outpouring of grief and raised concerns over air travel safety in the region.
