Navi Mumbai: 2 dead after building collapses in Belapur; 1 body recovered

Two persons have died after they were trapped under the rubble of a four-storey residential building that collapsed on Saturday morning, July 27. The incident took place around 4:30 am at G+3 building in Shahbaz village which falls under the Belapur ward. There were 13 flats in the building.

Police, fire brigade, and National Disaster Response Force team are present at the spot and carrying out the rescue operation.

Kailas Shinde, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) commissioner said that the two persons who were rescued have been admitted to a hospital and their condition is said to be stable. They have found one dead body and are extricating the body parts of another deceased.

It is a 10-year-old building. The investigation is on. Action will be taken against the owner of the building, he added.

The two persons rescued from under the debris have been identified as Lal Mohammad, aged 22, and Ruksana aged 21. Meanwhile, the deceased has been identified as Mohammed Miraj Shaikh.

Officials told the media that they had received a distress call around 4.50 am informing them about the collapse. The administration immediately started the rescue work after receiving the information. 

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde spoke to the NMMC chief about the Belapur building collapse over the phone from Delhi, where he is attending the NITI Aayog meeting. All the necessary facilities such as urgent treatment, health facilities, food, water, clothes, and temporary shelter should be made available to all the disaster victims immediately, CM Shinde directed him.
