10 Anti-Human Trafficking Clubs Launched At Mumbai Colleges

The Clubs are championed by the Mumbai Suburban District Legal Services Authority, Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission, and several NGOs in Mumbai.

On the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, celebrated on July 30, 10 Anti-Human Trafficking Clubs (AHTC) were launched by colleges in Mumbai city, to encourage student leadership in the awareness and prevention of human trafficking.

The Clubs are championed by the Mumbai Suburban District Legal Services Authority,

Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission, and non-profits The Movement India & Justice Ventures India, as part of the Nyay Network.

The main purpose of these clubs was to end human trafficking.

The 10 AHTCs were launched at St. Andrew College, Rizvi College, Chandrabhan Sharma College, Lords Universal College, Nirmal Education Society, Nirmal Degree College, Nirmal Junior College, Nagindas Khandwala College, Bhagubai Changu Thakur College, and Bhavan’s College.

Satish Hiwale, Secretary of the Mumbai Suburban District Legal Services Authority (MSDLSA), and Nitin Patil IAS, Secretary, Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission, along with Principals, National Service Scheme Program Officers, and student leaders from the 10 participating colleges were present the launch event.

While speaking at the launch, Hiwale, the Secretary of Mumbai Suburban said, “We need legal students who are willing to offer their expertise in law; we need management students and commerce students to understand the economics behind human trafficking. It will also aim to create sustainable businesses for survivors. We also need psychology students to step in and volunteer for counseling services. There needs to be room for every student to serve our nation.”
