Devendra Fadnavis Announces Compensation for Victims of Nilkamal Boat Accident

In a statement given in Nagpur, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the tragic Nilkamal boat accident. He announced a financial compensation of ₹5 lakh for the families of each person who lost their life in the incident.

The accident occurred near the Gateway of India when the Nilkamal passenger boat capsized. Thirteen passengers died, and two others were seriously injured and are being treated at a naval hospital. Rescue teams have managed to save 101 passengers so far.

Details of the Incident
Fadnavis explained that the accident happened when the Nilkamal boat collided with a naval vessel around 4 PM in the Arabian Sea. The collision led to the death of 13 people, including three naval personnel and ten passengers. Two individuals remain in critical condition. The Chief Minister assured that ongoing rescue efforts would provide more clarity by the following day.

Fadnavis confirmed that the state government has mobilized resources to assist in the rescue efforts. He also revealed that the Nilkamal boat was functioning correctly, but the naval vessel, which was undergoing engine testing, experienced a technical issue. This malfunction caused the vessel’s driver to lose control, resulting in the collision.

To support the victims, the state government will provide compensation from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, and a detailed investigation will be carried out.
