Jasprit Bumrah Surpasses Kapil Dev’s Record with Stunning Performance
Jasprit Bumrah made history on Tuesday by breaking Kapil Dev’s record for the most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in a single foreign country.
During the second innings of the Gabba Test, Bumrah claimed three wickets, taking his tally of wickets in Australia to 52 from just 10 matches at an average of 17.21. He surpassed Kapil Dev’s previous record of 51 wickets in 11 matches on Australian soil. Bumrah is now the leading Asian bowler in Australia, with Pakistan’s Sarfaraz Nawaz following at 50 wickets.
Bumrah’s incredible consistency has been a hallmark of his career. He has taken over 20 wickets with an average below 30 in four different countries, a feat unmatched by any other Indian cricketer. His success includes 38 wickets in South Africa at 20.76 and 37 wickets in England at 26.27.
In the ongoing series, Bumrah has been India’s top performer, leading the tournament with 21 wickets in just six innings at an average of 10.71. His standout performance includes dismissing Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne early in the innings, breaking their defense with precise deliveries.
Bumrah also matched his performance from the 2018/19 series by taking over 20 wickets in two separate tours of Australia. He joins Anil Kumble as the only Indian bowlers to achieve this milestone, with Kumble having taken 24 wickets in 2003/04 and 20 wickets in 2007/08.
Bumrah’s incredible achievement not only cements his place among India’s greatest bowlers but also adds a new chapter to Indian cricket history.
