Stone Pelting Incident on Train to Mahakumbh Raises Safety Concerns

A train carrying devotees to the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj was hit by stones, breaking several windows and raising safety concerns during the large religious gathering.

Passengers on the Tapti Ganga Express, traveling from Surat to Prayagraj, shared videos showing the damage. In one video, a passenger explained that someone threw a stone at the train shortly after it left Jalgaon, shattering a window in the B6 coach. The passenger urged the Railway Minister to improve security, especially as he was traveling with his family.

The incident affected 13 passengers, including women and children, in the coach.

Quick Action by Authorities

Swapnil Neela, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, stated that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) acted quickly. “The stone was thrown near Jalgaon. Four RPF teams were deployed, and a complaint was filed,” he said.

Inspector D. H. Patil from Jalgaon RPF explained that the stone hit berth number 39 in the B6 coach just five minutes after the train left Jalgaon station. The passengers immediately informed the Ticket Checker, Sohan Lal, who assured them of help.

At the next stop, Bhusaval station, RPF officials inspected the coach, spoke to the passengers, and checked with the train conductor.

The Tapti Ganga Express runs between Surat in Gujarat and Chhapra Junction in Bihar, passing through five states, including Uttar Pradesh.
