Maharashtra Extends HSRP Installation Deadline to April 30, 2025

Mumbai, February 18, 2025 – The Maharashtra State Transport Department has extended the deadline for installing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) to April 30, 2025. This decision was made due to the slow progress in vehicle owners updating their plates, especially in Pune, where over 25 lakh vehicles still need the new plates.

Who Needs to Install HSRP?

As per the Supreme Court’s order, all vehicles made before 2019 must have HSRP. However, many vehicle owners haven’t applied yet. In Pune, only 15,000–16,000 applications have been submitted, and just 7,000–8,000 vehicles have received the updated plates so far.

New Zonal System for Faster Installation

To speed up the process, the Transport Department has divided all Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) into three zones:

Zone 1 (12 RTOs): Includes Borivali, Thane, Panvel, Pune, Nagpur (East & West), and Kolhapur.
Zone 2 (18 RTOs): Includes Mumbai Central, Vasai, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Zone 3 (27 RTOs): Includes Mumbai (West), Nashik, Sangli, Beed, Latur, and Jalgaon.

What Happens Next?

State transport officials say this zonal system will make the process smoother and help complete the installation faster. All RTOs have been instructed to ensure vehicle owners get their HSRP plates before the new deadline. 🚗✅
