HSRP Number Plates Now Mandatory for All Vehicles

HSRP Number Plates Now Mandatory for All Vehicles
The government has made it mandatory for all vehicles to have High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) to help prevent theft and improve security. If you’re caught driving without an HSRP, you could be fined. The fine amount may vary depending on the state.
What is an HSRP?
High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) are special number plates with extra security features to prevent tampering and fraud. These plates include:
- A chromium-based hologram, which makes them difficult to duplicate.
- A unique 10-digit PIN code assigned to each vehicle.
- Laser-printed numbers on strong steel plates, making them hard to copy.
- A design that prevents easy removal, ensuring criminals cannot replace or alter the plate without damaging it.
Benefits of HSRP
- Prevents theft – The plate is almost impossible to remove without breaking.
- Quick vehicle identification – The QR code allows authorities to instantly access vehicle details.
- Tamper-proof design – The registration number cannot be altered.
- Useful in accidents – High-resolution cameras can easily read the plates, and the QR code helps access owner information quickly.
HSRP Installation Deadline
The deadline to install HSRP plates is April 30th.
- Vehicles bought after April 1, 2019, already have HSRP plates.
- Older vehicles need to get them installed.
This rule is part of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, which makes HSRP plates mandatory for all vehicles.
