In a major change, the Army Institute of Technology (AIT) will now admit children of Air Force and Navy personnel into its prestigious engineering programs. This decision, approved by the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), is a big step towards closer collaboration and integration among the three armed services.

Expanded Admissions for 2024-25

For the academic year 2024-25, AIT has admitted:

  • 11 children of Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel and 5 children of Indian Navy (IN) personnel into its BE programs.
  • 2 children of IAF and 1 child of Navy personnel into its ME program.

Previously, only children of Army personnel were eligible for admission to AIT.

Equitable Distribution Across Streams

Brigadier Abhay Bhat (Retd), Director of AIT, shared that the students have been fairly distributed across all engineering streams within the 19 available seats. He emphasized that this decision was taken at the highest levels of the Armed Forces to promote collaboration and unity among the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

About AIT

Founded in 1994, AIT is located on the Dighi campus, about 25 km from Pune, and is affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University. Known for academic excellence, the institute consistently achieves strong placement records, making it one of the top engineering colleges in the region.

A Welcome Change for Families

Officials from the Air Force and Navy have expressed their support for this move. A Group Captain noted that the IAF and Navy lack dedicated higher education institutes for their wards, so this decision provides much-needed opportunities and relief for their families.

Looking Ahead

This historic decision not only expands AIT’s role but also strengthens its reputation as a premier engineering institute. By fostering unity among the armed forces and maintaining its high academic standards, AIT is set to become a shining example of excellence in engineering education.
