Arvind Kejriwal Loses New Delhi Seat as BJP Gains Ground in 2025 Delhi Elections
In a surprising outcome in the 2025 Delhi Assembly Elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has reportedly lost his New Delhi seat by 3,182 votes to BJP candidate Parvesh Sahib Singh. This defeat marks a significant setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has governed the capital for over a decade. With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) making strong gains in key constituencies, AAP faces an uphill battle to retain power in Delhi.
At present, Parvesh Sahib Singh of BJP leads with 19,267 votes, while Kejriwal trails with 11,070 votes. Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit is far behind, securing only 3,013 votes.
Amid the vote counting, Kejriwal has raised concerns over the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) refusal to upload Form 17C, a crucial document that records total votes cast through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he criticized the ECI’s lack of transparency and urged for public access to voting data. In response, AAP launched a website to share Form 17C details for all Delhi constituencies, stressing the need for fair elections.
With BJP crossing the halfway mark, the election results signal a tough challenge for AAP’s governance in Delhi. While the final tally is yet to be confirmed, the BJP’s strong performance indicates a highly competitive political shift in the capital.
