Axar Patel Named Delhi Capitals Captain for IPL 2025

Delhi Capitals have officially appointed Axar Patel as their captain for IPL 2025, marking a major change in leadership. Axar has been part of the team for six years and was retained for ₹16.5 crore. He will now lead Delhi Capitals in their quest for their first IPL trophy.

Though Axar has limited captaincy experience in the IPL, he has led Gujarat in domestic cricket and served as India’s T20I vice-captain earlier this year.

Ruturaj Gaikwad took over from MS Dhoni in IPL 2024. Under his leadership, CSK finished fifth with seven wins in 14 matches.

Defending champions KKR have appointed Ajinkya Rahane as their new captain for IPL 2025, with Venkatesh Iyer as vice-captain.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) – Rishabh Pant

LSG named Rishabh Pant as captain after buying him for ₹27 crore in the mega auction. LSG finished seventh in IPL 2024, winning seven out of 14 matches under KL Rahul.

Mumbai Indians (MI) – Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as MI’s captain before IPL 2024. However, MI finished last in the points table. Pandya will look to lead a comeback in IPL 2025.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) – Shreyas Iyer

PBKS appointed Shreyas Iyer as captain in January 2025 after buying him for ₹26.75 crore. Punjab struggled in IPL 2024, finishing ninth with just five wins.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) – Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson has been RR’s captain since IPL 2021. In IPL 2024, RR finished third but lost in Qualifier 2.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) – Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar takes over as RCB’s new captain for IPL 2025. Under Faf du Plessis, RCB finished fourth last season but was knocked out in the playoffs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins became SRH’s captain in 2024, replacing Aiden Markram. He led SRH to the IPL 2024 final, where they finished as runners-up.
