After a 15-month delay, the Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge in Andheri will reopen partially today (February 26). The bridge will shorten the travel time between Andheri East and Andheri West.

A video of Azeem Banatwalla is circulating on social media in which he criticises the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for spending nearly “six years” on the bridge’s construction before partially reopening it today.

Though he welcomed the announcement, stating that it would save commute time for Andheri residents, the man expressed surprise at the “mismatched” area connecting the Barfiwala flyover to the Gokhale Bridge.

He said, “And we were finally positive that after years, people from Andheri West will be able to reach the highway, the airport, and the railway station, without having to sit for 45 minutes in traffic. Very Good.”

He then mockingly stated that he was not an engineer, but he could have seen it coming if the area between the two bridges had not been built in alignment. He jokingly inquired whether the engineers had plans to put an elevator there.

Citing various media stories, the individual said that the authorities had employed engineering students as consultants. He jokingly questioned the civic council about the measure, claiming that the pupils must have a debt in their canteen.
