The Bombay High Court has asked a family court to deliver its verdict on the divorce of cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma by March 20, considering Chahal’s commitments to the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Chahal and Verma, who have been living apart for over two and a half years, had requested to waive the six-month waiting period required under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act. They cited “compatibility issues” as the reason for their separation.

Earlier, on February 20, the family court denied their request, stating that Chahal had not fully completed the financial settlement. He had agreed to pay ₹4.75 crore as alimony but had only paid ₹2.37 crore at that time. However, the high court has now permitted him to complete the remaining payment after the divorce is finalized.

The couple married in December 2020 but separated in June 2022. They officially filed for divorce on February 5, 2025. Their separation has been widely discussed, with false rumors spreading about a ₹60 crore alimony demand, which Verma clarified was untrue.

The Supreme Court has previously ruled that if both parties agree and there are no disputes, the six-month waiting period can be waived. The family court’s decision on March 20 will determine the final outcome of their divorce.
