The fire broke out around 10:30 am at Runwal Chowk in the Manpada area on Kalyan-Shilphata Road. Noticing the fire, the driver immediately stopped the bus, asked all passengers to get off safely, and then jumped out himself, a police official said.
To prevent further accidents, the police stopped traffic on both sides of the road. With the help of a water tanker, they managed to put out the fire within 30 minutes, said Pankaj Shirsat, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic.
After the fire was controlled, a crane was used to remove the burnt bus from the road, and traffic flow returned to normal.
“The traffic police quickly evacuated the passengers and extinguished the fire. Traffic is now running smoothly,” Shirsat stated. He added that extra precautions were taken for vehicles carrying flammable materials in the area.
The passengers continued their journey in auto-rickshaws and private vehicles.
