Coastal Towns Ganpatipule, Dapoli, and Alibaug See Surge in Tourism and Business Growth Ahead of Holiday Season
Popular tourist spots like Ganpatipule, Dapoli, and Alibaug are seeing a rise in visitors, with local businesses thriving during the holiday season.
Ganpatipule’s Popularity Grows
Ganpatipule, a peaceful coastal town in Ratnagiri district, has become a top destination for tourists from Mumbai, Pune, and western Maharashtra. The weekends bring large numbers of travelers, helping local businesses like hotels, beach vendors, and boating services generate more than ₹10 lakhs in sales.
The town is famous for its beautiful beaches, stunning sunsets, and the Ganpati Temple. Visitors enjoy activities like swimming, horse carriage rides, and sea walks. While weekdays are quieter, weekends are bustling with families and groups filling local accommodations and restaurants.
Challenges and Opportunities
Construction of the Mumbai-Goa National Highway and the Mirya-Nagpur route has caused some tourists to choose other coastal destinations like Alibaug and Dapoli. However, once the highway is completed, local businesses expect an even bigger surge in visitors.
Weather Boosts Tourism
After Cyclone Fengal passed, the Konkan region has enjoyed cooler weather, with temperatures in Dapoli dropping to 14°C. This has attracted more tourists, especially over the extended weekend following Mahaparinirvana Day.
Christmas Bookings Rise
With Christmas approaching, many tourists have already started booking their stays in Ganpatipule and nearby coastal areas. The holiday season is expected to bring even more visitors, benefiting local businesses.
MTDC’s Privatization Plans
The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) is planning to privatize over 30 properties through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Tourist destinations like Ganpatipule, Tarkarli, and Alibaug are set to get infrastructure upgrades, improving facilities for visitors and opening up opportunities for private investment.
As Ganpatipule continues to gain popularity, it stands out as a top coastal destination, offering a mix of natural beauty and cultural significance.
