Man Booked Under Multiple IPC Sections and Maharashtra Liquor Act

Pune Police have arrested a man posing as a cop. He was arrested for assaulting citizens after a video of the incident went viral. The man, identified as Sushant Parte, has been booked under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 170 (personating a public servant), and Section 85 of the Maharashtra Liquor Act.

Early on Monday morning, Pune Police announced the arrest on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle. In the video Parte, apparently intoxicated, dressed in a police uniform and armed with a gun is seen assaulting citizens on the street. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, as people celebrated India’s victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where the Rohit Sharma-led team defeated South Africa by seven runs in Barbados.

In their social media post, Pune Police stated, “Fake Police Under Arrest! Taking action vis-à-vis a viral video, Vishrambaug Police arrested an individual who was posing as a police officer and hitting citizens under the influence of alcohol. A case has been registered under IPC Sections 420, 170, and Section 85 of the Maharashtra Liquor Act.”

The arrest highlights the importance of vigilance and prompt law enforcement response to such incidents.
