In a tragic incident reported by the Government Railway Police (GRP) official on Sunday, a 30-year-old man, who served as the sole provider for his family, suffered the loss of both legs after tumbling from a moving Mumbai local train. The unfortunate event unfolded in Maharashtra’s Thane district, which borders Mumbai.

According to details provided by the news agency PTI, the man’s harrowing ordeal occurred during his commute on the bustling railway network. The severity of his injuries underscores the dangers faced by passengers navigating the crowded trains of India’s financial capital. The incident has sparked concerns over commuter safety and the need for enhanced measures to prevent such accidents on the Mumbai local train system.

According to the PTI report, the incident occurred on 22nd May in the Kalwa area. Jagan Laxman Jangle, the individual involved, was standing on the footboard of a heavily crowded coach of a Mumbai local train during his journey from Dadar (located in Mumbai) to Kalyan (in Thane).

According to the police, the man, a resident of Kalyan who was employed at a book depot in Dadar, had recently got married and was the sole provider for his family.

The police, citing accounts from the man’s brother, medical professionals and eyewitnesses, stated that he lost his balance and toppled onto the tracks after the train had passed Thane station. Tragically, he was then caught under the wheels of the moving local train.

Upon receiving reports of an injured individual near Thane creek, personnel from the GRP promptly arrived at the scene and swiftly transported Jangle to the nearby Chhatrapati Shivaji Hospital in Kalwa, as stated by the official.

As of now, the investigation has not confirmed any instance of the man being hit by a robber who attempted to steal his phone, resulting in his fall from the train, the official stated according to PTI. The official added that further investigation is underway.
