Five Injured After Lift Falls From Fourth Floor in Byculla High-Rise
Suspected cable failure behind late-night accident at 18-storey Jay Krupa Tower
Mumbai: Five people were injured after a lift suddenly fell from the fourth floor of an 18-storey residential building in Byculla on Wednesday night. The incident caused panic among residents and raised fresh concerns about lift safety in high-rise buildings.
The accident took place at Jay Krupa Tower, located at Ghodapdeo Cross Lane No. 1. According to officials, the lift is suspected to have malfunctioned due to a cable problem, leading to the sudden drop.
Police received a call about the incident at around 10.02 p.m., after which emergency teams were immediately sent to the building.
The Disaster Management Cell confirmed that all five injured persons were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Three of them were admitted to JJ Hospital, while one each was taken to Jaslok Hospital and Balaji Hospital. Their condition has not been officially disclosed.

Teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, BMC ward office, BEST, police and ambulance services reached the spot to carry out rescue operations and ensure the safety of residents.
Authorities have started an investigation to find out the exact cause of the accident. Initial reports suggest a technical fault in the lift’s cable system. Officials will also check whether regular maintenance and safety checks were properly conducted.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the importance of regular inspection and strict safety measures in Mumbai’s residential high-rise buildings.
