From 100 Days to a Lifetime: Arjun Sen’s Inspiring Victory Over Cancer
Arjun Sen was told he had only 100 days to live after being diagnosed with cancer, but he fought the disease and won. His incredible journey inspired the movie I Want to Talk. Arjun’s story has given hope to many others facing similar challenges.
At 32, Arjun was a successful marketing expert when his life took a sudden turn. One day, during a work meeting, he started vomiting blood. Medical tests revealed he had cancer, and doctors predicted he had just 100 days left to live.
Telling his family and friends was one of the hardest parts, especially since he was living in the U.S. and had to make difficult phone calls. At times, he felt so overwhelmed that he found it hard to talk.
A life-changing moment came when his young daughter asked him, “Dad, are you going to die? Will you be there at my wedding?” Her questions gave him new determination. Arjun started focusing on healthier habits, followed his treatment plan strictly, and put all his energy into getting better.
He recalled how the medical staff and his friends supported him during his chemotherapy sessions. “They told me, ‘Cancer won’t kill you; losing hope will.’ Even though chemo made me weak, their encouragement kept me going. They’d ask, ‘How’s our future cancer winner doing today?’”
As the 100th day approached, Arjun’s health started improving. During that time, he began writing books, reconnecting with loved ones, and sharing his story.
Years later, filmmaker Shoojit Sircar approached him about making a movie based on his life. At first, Arjun hesitated, but his daughter encouraged him, saying, “Dad, you need to share your story—it will help others.” That convinced him to agree.
Now, more than 25 years after his diagnosis, Arjun is cancer-free. He has written several books and continues to inspire people by sharing his journey. His story is the heart of I Want to Talk, starring Abhishek Bachchan.
