The central government has expanded the list of premium trains available for government employees under the Leave Travel Concession (LTC) scheme. Employees can now book tickets on 385 premium trains, including 136 Vande Bharat, 97 Humsafar, and 8 Tejas Express trains. Earlier, they could only use 144 luxury trains, such as the Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto series, for LTC travel. This decision provides employees with more travel options across India.

Travel Classes Based on Job Levels

  • Short and Medium Distances:
    • Employees at Level 11 and below: Chair Car (CC) on Vande Bharat, Tejas, and Shatabdi trains.
    • Employees at Level 12 and above: Executive Chair Car on the same trains.
  • Long Distances (Sleeper Trains):
    • Level 12 and above: AC 2nd Class.
    • Level 6 to 11: AC 2nd Class.
    • Level 5 and below: AC 3rd Class.

What is LTC?

LTC is a travel benefit for government employees that allows them to travel anywhere in India once every four years. The scheme reimburses round-trip travel costs and provides paid leave. Employees can also use the Home Town LTC option, allowing them to visit their hometown once in two years and travel anywhere in India in the next two years.

Air Travel Discounts

Under LTC, discounts are also available for air travel to certain destinations like the North-Eastern states, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. These air travel discounts are valid until September 25, 2026, but only for employees who are eligible for air travel under the scheme.

This change aims to offer more convenience and better travel options for government employees.
