Health Risks of Copper Water: Benefits and Safety Guidelines
Drinking water from copper containers can offer some health benefits, but it’s important to follow proper guidelines to avoid any risks.
Copper is a necessary mineral, but too much of it can be harmful. Recently, there has been concern about copper water due to potential copper toxicity. This happens when there is too much copper in the body, which can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, dizziness, irritability, and in severe cases, liver damage, fatigue, kidney problems, and muscle weakness.
To avoid copper toxicity, it’s important to not drink water that has been sitting in copper containers for too long. The World Health Organization recommends that water should not contain more than 0.47 mg of copper per cup.
For safe copper-infused water, store it in a clean copper container for 6 to 8 hours. Drinking this water once or twice a day is enough. Make sure to clean the container regularly with natural ingredients like lemon and salt to prevent copper buildup. Also, avoid storing acidic or salty liquids in copper containers, as they can cause more copper to leach into the water.
Lastly, be mindful of your overall copper intake from both food and supplements to keep it balanced and avoid health issues.
