IIT Madras has successfully built India’s first hyperloop test track, which is 422 meters long. This advanced technology could make travel between Delhi and Jaipur possible in under 30 minutes, marking a big step forward in modern transportation, according to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

What is Hyperloop?

Hyperloop is a new and super-fast mode of transportation. It works like a train inside a low-pressure tube, which reduces air resistance and allows it to reach speeds of over 1000 km/h. Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, first introduced this idea in 2013 through a paper called ‘Hyperloop Alpha’.

How Fast is It?

When fully developed, hyperloop technology could cover 350 kilometers in just 30 minutes. This means the 300 km journey from Delhi to Jaipur could take less than half an hour.

Government Support and Future Plans

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted how the government and educational institutions are working together to create futuristic transport solutions. He stressed that the Modi government is committed to promoting innovation and supporting research in advanced transportation.

IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti said, “The day is not far when India will have high-speed hyperloop connections between major cities.” He added that this project aims to inspire young minds and promote hyperloop technology worldwide.

Following Vaishnaw’s statement, it is expected that Indian Railways may soon launch India’s first commercial hyperloop project.
