India, a country with a rich cultural and historical heritage, observes Veer Bal Diwas every year on December 26. This day honors the incredible sacrifices of the Sahibzadas, the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who displayed extraordinary courage and dedication to their faith.

The Government of India established this national observance in 2022 to recognize the bravery and selflessness of these young martyrs, who stood firm in their beliefs even in the face of oppression.

Sacrifices of the Sahibzadas

  • The two elder sons, Ajit Singh and Jujhar Singh, lost their lives fighting heroically in the Battle of Chamkaur in December 1705.
  • The younger sons, Zorawar Singh (9 years old) and Fateh Singh (6 years old), were captured by Mughal forces. Despite their young age, they refused to abandon their faith and were martyred by being entombed alive in a wall.

How Veer Bal Diwas is Celebrated

Each year, the day is marked with a special theme focusing on values like bravery, solidarity, and protecting humanity. Activities include:

  • Educational Events: Schools organize storytelling sessions, essay writing competitions, and creative projects to teach students about the Sahibzadas’ courage and sacrifices.
  • Community Gatherings: Prayer meetings, kirtans, and discussions promote spiritual reflection and moral values.
  • Art and Exhibitions: Public events display artwork and stories to inspire people with the Sahibzadas’ legacy.
