India Introduces New Passport Rules: Easier Process, Enhanced Security
The Indian government has updated passport rules to make the application process easier and more secure. Here’s what you need to know:
- Birth Certificate Requirement: If you were born after October 1, 2023, you must submit a birth certificate from the municipal corporation or another authorized agency. For those born earlier, other documents like school certificates or PAN cards are also accepted.
- Address Display Change: The last page of passports will no longer show your address. Instead, a barcode will provide secure access to this information for immigration officials.
- Colour-Coded Passports: Passports will now be color-coded:
- White for government officials
- Red for diplomats
- Blue for regular citizens
- Parental Names Not Required: The names of parents will no longer be printed in passports to protect personal privacy, especially for single-parent or separated families.
- More Passport Offices: The number of Passport Seva Kendras will increase from 442 to 600 in the next five years, making it easier for people to apply and get their passports quickly.
These changes aim to simplify the process and enhance security for all passport holders in India.
