The Indian box office achieved a gross collection of ₹11,833 crore in 2024, making it the second-highest earning year after 2023’s record ₹12,226 crore, according to Ormax Media.

Attendance and Ticket Prices
While revenue remained strong, cinema attendance continued to lag behind pre-pandemic levels for the third year. The Average Ticket Price (ATP) rose slightly by 3%, from ₹130 in 2023 to ₹134 in 2024.

Performance of Regional Cinema

  • Telugu Cinema: Led the domestic box office with over ₹2,000 crore for the third consecutive year, despite a 12% drop in audience numbers.
  • Malayalam Cinema: Doubled its market share to 10%, crossing ₹1,000 crore for the first time. The film Manjummel Boys became the highest-grossing Malayalam movie, earning ₹150 crore.
  • Gujarati Cinema: Grew by 66%, making it the second-best performing regional industry after Malayalam.
  • Hindi Cinema: Revenue fell from ₹5,380 crore in 2023 to ₹4,679 crore, reducing its market share to 40%.
  • Kannada Cinema: Struggled, with collections dropping 13% and audience attendance hitting a 10-year low.

  • Pushpa 2: The Rule was the year’s biggest hit, earning ₹1,403 crore, including ₹889 crore from its Hindi-dubbed version—a new record for Hindi cinema.
  • Other blockbusters included Kalki 2898 AD and Stree 2, which each grossed over ₹500 crore, while Devara – Part 1 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 crossed ₹300 crore.

Hollywood and Other Regional Films
