Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been named the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024, earning the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the award on Tuesday, recognizing Bumrah’s brilliant performances across all formats of cricket throughout the year.
A Year of Success
Bumrah stood out among top players like Travis Head, Joe Root, and Harry Brook to win the honor. He is the fifth Indian to receive this award, joining cricketing greats Rahul Dravid (2004), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Virat Kohli (2017, 2018). Earlier this year, Bumrah was also named the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year, marking an incredible season for the pacer.
Incredible Performances
Bumrah had a record-breaking 2024. He became the fastest Indian pacer to take 200 Test wickets during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. He also topped the ICC Test Bowling Rankings with 907 rating points—the highest ever for an Indian bowler.
