Lilavati Hospital Caught in Controversy Over Missing Funds and Black Magic Claims
Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital is facing a major controversy as its current trustees have accused former members of the Lilavati Kirtilal Mehta Medical Trust of misusing Rs 1,200 crore. They have also made shocking claims about black magic rituals being performed within the hospital premises.
Allegations and Legal Action
The current trustees have filed several complaints with the police and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), leading to three FIRs against the former trustees. Another legal case related to black magic practices is also pending in court.
Prashant Mehta, the trust’s Permanent Resident Trustee, stated that the financial mismanagement has badly affected the hospital’s operations. He assured that the trust is committed to transparency and accountability and wants to ensure that the hospital’s funds are used for patient care.

Forensic Audit Exposes Large-Scale Misuse of Funds
After a long legal battle, the new trustees took charge of the hospital and ordered a forensic audit. The audit, conducted by Chetan Dalal Investigation and Management Services and ADB and Associates, found evidence of massive financial fraud.
According to reports, over Rs 1,500 crore was allegedly misused by the previous trustees, many of whom are NRIs living in Dubai and Belgium. The audit uncovered dealings with third-party suppliers and personal use of trust funds.
Black Magic Allegations
In an unexpected twist, Parambir Singh, Executive Director of Lilavati Hospital and former Mumbai Police Commissioner, claimed that occult items were found buried under the trustees’ office.
Hospital staff tipped off the trustees, and during an excavation, they found eight urns containing human remains, bones, hair, rice, and other ritualistic items. The discovery was recorded on video in front of witnesses.
The trustees tried to file a police complaint under Maharashtra’s anti-superstition law, but when the authorities refused, they took the matter to court. The court later ordered an official investigation.
Investigation Continues
The allegations of financial fraud and black magic have drawn widespread attention. Authorities are continuing their investigation, while the trustees promise to bring back transparency and proper management to the hospital.
This case has raised serious concerns about governance and accountability in charitable medical institutions, highlighting the urgent need for stricter financial oversight.
