Reports of poor hygiene in restaurants, especially with food ordered through delivery apps, are on the rise. A recent case involved a live worm found in a salad, catching the public’s attention. An Instagram video by @fitnesskapratik shows a man from Bengaluru revealing the worm wriggling in a salad bowl he ordered from FreshMenu, a popular cloud kitchen on Zomato.

In the video, he displays his receipt, which lists four items, but only three were delivered. When he opens the salad, he finds a live worm and decides not to check the other two items. He urges Zomato to investigate the issue.

Sharing his disappointment, he wrote, “After a long time, I decided to order food from outside, and this happened. Please avoid outside food, and if you must, check it carefully before eating.”

FreshMenu issued an apology, saying:
“We are deeply sorry for the incident with your recent order. Finding a live worm in your salad is unacceptable. We immediately took action and sent representatives to meet you in person to address your concerns. We have identified the issue, taken strict disciplinary action, and implemented additional training and stricter checks in our kitchens to ensure this doesn’t happen again.”

Several users commented on the post, sharing similar experiences:

  • “I stopped ordering from FreshMenu after finding a plastic piece in my food and, another time, stale food. Never ordering again.”
  • “I’ve fallen sick multiple times because of their food. They sell it cheap for a reason.”

The incident has reignited discussions about food safety and the need for stricter hygiene regulations in the food delivery industry.
