Lost for 15 Years, a Man Regains Memory After Hearing 'Mahakumbh'
Koderma, Jharkhand – In an unbelievable real-life story, a man who had been missing for 15 years suddenly remembered his past when he heard the word “Mahakumbh.” Just as his family was about to declare him legally dead, he was found, leading to an emotional reunion.
Disappearance Without a Trace
Prakash Mahato, from Kadodih, Markacho, worked for the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and struggled with mental health issues. On May 9, 2010, he disappeared while traveling to Kolkata. His family searched everywhere and even filed a missing person report, but there was no sign of him for years.
A New Life Without Memories
Unknown to his family, Mahato had been living in Raniganj, West Bengal, where a kind hotel owner, Sumit Sao, gave him food, shelter, and work. Locals affectionately called him “Wrestler.” For years, he worked at the hotel, unaware of his real identity.
‘Mahakumbh’ Sparks a Miracle
One day, Sumit’s family was discussing their plan to visit Mahakumbh. The moment Mahato heard the word, he insisted he must go because his home was near the pilgrimage route. This triggered his lost memories, and after further questioning, he finally recalled his real name and hometown. Sumit immediately informed the authorities, and on January 7, Mahato’s family arrived in Raniganj to identify him. The reunion was deeply emotional.
A Family’s Joy & A Pending Death Certificate
Now 52 years old, Mahato was finally reunited with his wife Geeta Devi and children, Sujal (18) and Rani (16), who had only seen their father in old photos.
Ironically, just 10 days before the reunion, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation sent a letter about unpaid dues, leading the family to apply for his death certificate. But since the process wasn’t completed, it remains pending.
A Happy Ending
As a final heartwarming gesture, Sumit Sao has promised to take Mahato and his family to Mahakumbh—the very word that brought him back home. This unbelievable story proves that fate works in mysterious ways!
