New Delhi, April 7: The price of domestic LPG cylinders will be increased by ₹50 starting Tuesday, April 8, as per an official announcement from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The revised rates will apply uniformly to all domestic consumers, including beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).

The hike will affect millions of households across the country, as the cost of a standard 14.2 kg LPG cylinder rises significantly. The updated prices will come into effect from Tuesday morning and will reflect at all retail LPG distribution outlets nationwide.

This increase comes amid a global surge in energy prices and is expected to impact both urban and rural households that rely on LPG for daily cooking needs. Although PMUY provides subsidized LPG connections to women from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households to encourage clean cooking fuel usage, the increase in refill costs may still pose a financial strain on economically weaker sections.

The last revision in domestic LPG prices took place in March 2025, when rates remained unchanged following previous cuts. With this latest hike, final retail prices will vary depending on state-level taxes and other regional factors.

Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) review LPG prices regularly based on fluctuations in international benchmark rates and foreign exchange values. However, the government has not announced any additional subsidies or relief measures in response to the current increase.

Consumers are advised to check with their respective LPG distributors for exact updated prices in their area. The decision is likely to spark renewed debate over the rising cost of essential fuels and its impact on household budgets.
