The Maharashtra government has given a ₹600 crore contract to three private companies to replace number plates on vehicles made before 2019. However, these companies are charging nearly double the price compared to other states, raising concerns about fairness and transparency.

Companies Handling the Project

The three companies managing this number plate replacement in Maharashtra are:

  • Rosmerta Safety Systems Ltd.
  • Real Mazon India Ltd.
  • FTA HSRP Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

Despite the Transport Department overseeing the process, details about how and when these contracts were given remain unclear. A member of the Federation of Drivers-Owners Representatives has questioned the lack of transparency.

How to Get an HSRP Number Plate in Maharashtra

  1. Register online at transport.maharashtra.gov.in.
  2. Choose a fitment center from the available options.
  3. Book an appointment and visit the center on the given date.
  4. Get the number plate installed by the vendor, who will also update the vehicle’s system.

Officials have warned that only government-authorized vendors should be used. If a number plate is bought elsewhere, it won’t be registered in the system, and the vehicle will be marked as “pending” for an official HSRP installation.

Public Outrage Over High Prices

Many citizens are questioning why Maharashtra’s HSRP number plates are so much more expensive than in other states. People are demanding an explanation from the government, calling for transparency in the pricing and contract process.
