Maharashtra’s Tallest Flyover: A Marvel of Engineering on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway
Standing as high as a 30-story building, the tallest flyover in Maharashtra has been built on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway. Known as a “Valley Pul” (bridge), this structure offers stunning views and showcases modern engineering at its best.
Key Details:
- Total Length of the Expressway:
- 701 km, connecting 10 districts and 390 villages.
- Phases of the Expressway:
- Nagpur to Shirdi: 520 km
- Shirdi to Nashik (Bharvir Interchange): 80 km
- Final stretch from Igatpuri to Amne will open soon.
- Valley Bridge Features:
- 15 valley bridges (viaducts) totaling 11 km.
- The longest viaduct in Package 16 is 2.28 km.
- The height of Viaduct-2 in Package 15 is 84 meters, equivalent to a 28-30 story building.
- Engineering Challenges:
- The bridges were built over difficult valleys, hills, and rivers.
- Heavy rainfall and complex terrain made construction very challenging.
- Longest Tunnel in Maharashtra:
- Located between Igatpuri and Kasara.
- Travel time through the tunnel is about 8 minutes.
Importance of the Project:
The Samruddhi Expressway is a huge step forward in Maharashtra’s infrastructure. It will offer faster travel for commuters, benefit businesses, and improve tourism and regional growth.
This project sets a new standard for engineering excellence and promises to improve connectivity in the region.
