As the monsoon season approaches, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has undertaken comprehensive measures to ensure the safety and convenience of residents and commuters. With a focus on pre-emptive action and rapid response, MMRDA has rolled out a multifaceted strategy encompassing a 24/7 Control Room, bolstered metro project safety protocols and enhanced infrastructure readiness across key areas, which they shared on the social media platform X.
24/7 Control Room:
A dedicated Control Room operating round-the-clock from 1st June to 30th September has been set up. Equipped with emergency contact numbers, including toll-free options for public access, the Control Room serves as a central hub for addressing complaints related to the monsoon, ranging from tree uprooting to waterlogging and accidents.
“Emergency contact numbers – 022-26591241, 022-26594176, 8657402090 and 1800228801, toll-free available for public use.” Notably, non-MMRDA related complaints will be redirected to relevant agencies for resolution.
Metro Projects:
With an extensive workforce comprising over 300 engineers and workers, MMRDA will ensure safety at various metro project sites during the monsoon onslaught. The deployment of 19 emergency response teams, coupled with strategically positioned maintenance vehicles and ambulances, underscores MMRDA’s proactive stance towards mitigating risks.
Additionally, the installation of 131 water pumping pumps and barricade adjustments aim to facilitate smooth drainage and traffic flow, further enhancing safety measures at project sites. The post read, “Soil piles are being removed, drains and dividers repaired, and electrical equipment tested in preparation for the monsoon season.”
Atal Setu:
For the iconic Atal Setu Bridge, a toll-free number is in place to address any emergencies: 1800 203 1818. This is complemented by the deployment of adequate-capacity pumps to forestall flooding in the Interchange area. Furthermore, a dedicated emergency response team, continuous patrols and coordination with local authorities ensure effective traffic regulation and swift resolution of any issues that may arise.
Surya Project in Vasai-Virar:
The project will be undertaken to ensure uninterrupted water supply, even amidst the challenges posed by the monsoon. Elevated intake pumps, equipped to withstand high flood levels, coupled with heavy-duty equipment to manage potential blockages will be placed. Moreover, a state-of-the-art laboratory at the Water Treatment Plant will be set up to maintain stringent water quality standards for residents.
