Mohanlal’s first film as a director, Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure, is preparing for its digital debut following a short run in theaters. The fantasy movie, which was released in cinemas on December 25, 2024, will soon stream on Disney+ Hotstar in multiple languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. Reports suggest it will premiere in late January, possibly around the Republic Day weekend, to attract a larger audience during the holiday.

When and Where to Watch Barroz

Barroz will stream exclusively on Disney+ Hotstar. While it’s confirmed to release in five languages, there’s no word yet on whether Marathi and Bengali versions will also be available. The digital release is expected in the last week of January, roughly a month after its theatrical release.

Trailer and Story of Barroz

The trailer showcases a visually stunning 3D fantasy adventure. The story revolves around Barroz, a ghost entrusted with protecting a treasure connected to Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama. Centuries later, a teenager named Isabella arrives in Goa with her father to turn the treasure-filled palace into a casino, setting the stage for a magical tale with a historical twist, aimed at entertaining young viewers.

Mohanlal plays the title role of Barroz, alongside Maya Rao West and Ignacio Mateos. The cast also features Tuhin Meno, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Guru Somasundaram, Melvin Gregg, Kosisochukwu, Amal P. B., Kirtana Kumar, and cameo appearances by Pranav Mohanlal, Antony Perumbavoor, and Lydian Nadhaswaram.

The film was directed by Mohanlal and produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas. Key contributors include Santosh Sivan (cinematography), B. Ajith Kumar (editing), Santhosh Raman (production design), and T.K. Rajeev Kumar (creative direction). Reception and Performance

Despite its grand scale and high budget, Barroz struggled at the box office, earning only ₹25 crore worldwide. Critics cited its long runtime and complex storyline as weaknesses. The film currently has an IMDb rating of 4.4 out of 10.
