The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that several parts of Mumbai will face disruption in water supply on April 18 and 19. While some areas will experience a complete water cutoff, others will see a reduction of up to 25% in water supply. This disruption is attributed to ongoing work on connecting the Dharavi Navrang Compound water line ward in G North.
The 18-hour operation, scheduled to commence at 10 am on April 18 and conclude at 4 am on April 19, necessitates the closure of one of the supply mains, impacting water distribution across affected areas.
Technical details provided in an official statement highlight the significance of valve diameters measuring 2400 mm and 450 mm in the connection process. As a result, areas reliant on the affected supply main will face complete water shortages, while others will experience a significant drop in water pressure.
In specific locations, such as the Bandra Railway Terminus and Bandra Station Area in the H/East Ward, as well as parts of the G North Ward including Dharavi Loop Road, Naik Nagar, and Proem Nagar, there will be no water supply. Additionally, areas like Ganesh Mandir Road, Dharavi Loop Road, and Dilip Kadam Road in the G North Ward may also experience a complete shutdown of water supply.
Furthermore, areas such as Mahatma Gandhi Road, Sant Kakkaya Road, AKJ Nagar, 60 feet Road, 90 feet Road, and Sion-Mahim Link roads in the G North Ward will witness a 25% reduction in water supply.
Purushottam Malwade, a BMC water engineer, addressed concerns raised by residents of Shahu Nagar, Dharavi, regarding water supply issues, emphasizing that the completion of the cross-connection project is expected to alleviate these challenges and potentially increase water pressure.
Assistant Engineer Kailash Dhongade from the water works department of G-North also expressed optimism, assuring residents of Dharavi that the completion of the project will lead to improved water supply conditions, particularly crucial during the summer months.
