Mumbai–Goa Highway Completion Claim Faces Doubts Amid Ongoing Delays
Despite fresh assurance of a one-month deadline, several stretches of NH66 remain unfinished, raising concerns over further delays
The long-pending Mumbai–Goa National Highway (NH66) project has come under renewed attention after Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that it would be completed within a month. While the statement has sparked optimism, reports from the ground suggest that considerable work is still incomplete.
Speaking at an event in Sindhudurg, Gadkari expressed confidence about the project nearing its end. However, according to local reports, several important sections of the highway, including flyovers, underpasses, and connecting roads, are yet to be finished.
There appears to be a growing gap between official claims and the actual progress of the project. Estimates indicate that it could take at least four more months for full completion. With the monsoon season approaching, any slowdown in work could push the timeline even further.
The highway project has already faced multiple delays in the past due to land acquisition issues, slow construction, and technical challenges. Although some parts of the road are now open, others continue to create traffic bottlenecks.
Commuters traveling on this route are still dealing with congestion, diversions, and uneven road conditions. As a result, the expected reduction in travel time between Mumbai and Goa has not yet been achieved.
The situation has also raised questions about the difference between official announcements and actual on-ground execution. While progress is visible in certain sections, the highway is still far from being fully operational end-to-end.
With time running short before the monsoon, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether the project meets its latest deadline or faces further setbacks.
