Mumbai Police arrested a 36-year-old man from Bandra (East) for sending pornographic video clips to at least 25 women over the past few months.

The arrest comes nearly two months after a 30-year-old woman who had received one such clip filed a complaint.

The accused, Mohammed Aziz Nisar Khan, 36, originally hails from Uttar Pradesh. His family comprises his wife and two children who stay in UP while he lives in Behrampada in Bandra (East) along with other roommates on rent and runs a Paratha-Halwa shop.

Shaikh used eight phones with different SIM cards to send the clips, the police said. He claims he sent the clips to random numbers and when the call receiver turned out to be a woman, he would ask them out. He would send them pornographic material with the intention of establishing a relationship with the women. Later, it was found out that he was also accused in an acid attack case on his wife and son last month.

On June 14, a 30-year-old homemaker, who had received a random phone call, filed a complaint at Nirmal Nagar police station.

After the caller spoke vulgarly, she yelled at him and hung up the call. The angry caller then started bombarding her WhatsApp with porn videos and pictures to harass her. Initially, the woman ignored it, and later got fed up and told her husband.

Senior inspector Shrimant Shinde instructed inspector Rauf Shaikh to thoroughly probe the matter and nab the culprit.

As per reports, after sharing clips Khan would switch off his mobile phone to remain untraced.

Shaikh’s team’s havaldar Amol Salunkhe and Shrikrishna Salunkhe finally traced and caught the caller from the Behrampada area in Bandra. Two mobile handsets were seized from him.

To keep himself off the police radar, he would insert a sim card in a mobile phone, connect it to any unsecured wi-fi network, and open WhatsApp applications. The police’s probe would hit a dead end at the wi-fi router’s owner.

He was arrested after an extensive technical investigation by the police. Investigations have revealed the IMEI number of eight mobile phones used by Khan for the commission of the crime.

Khan has been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act for sexual harassment by sending obscene or pornographic content.

The court has granted two days of police custody. Therefore, the police are appealing to victims to come forward and lodge complaints.
