To commemorate the glorious heritage of Indian cinema, a one-of-a-kind effort is slated to embellish the underbelly of Mumbai’s metro line 2B, which runs from Bandra Paschim. Mumbai BJP President and MLA Adv Ashish Shelar presented plans to transform the spaces between 355 pillars, spanning seven stations from ESIC Nagar to Bandra, into a lively tribute to Bollywood.

MLA Adv Ashish Shelar and MMRDA officials conducted a site inspection at Bandra West before making the announcement. With Band Stand, Mount Mary, Bandra Fort, and the historic Bandra Railway Station all part of the cultural tapestry, the neighborhood serves as a beacon for both tourists and Bollywood enthusiasts.

The programme intends not only to improve the physical attractiveness of the area, but also to serve as a tourist attraction, bringing light on the rich film tradition that spans a century. MMRDA has recruited the help of Bollywood lovers to create a detailed master plan that captures the landmarks, characters, and studios that have shaped the industry from 1913 to 2023.

Using cutting-edge technology, the thematic installations will tell the tale of Bollywood’s history, from humble origins to global prominence today. Anticipating community interaction, the project anticipates a Bollywood-themed “Happy Street” programme on Sundays, which will serve as a platform for a variety of activities such as film promotions and cultural events.
