A 64-year-old Mumbai man stabbed her old mother to death at their residence in the early hours of Tuesday, July 9.

The accused has been identified as Subhash Wagh. He was infuriated with the deceased, Ramabai Nathu Pisal (78), as she was allegedly disrupting his sleep. They lived together on the floor of the Panditalaya building on Lamington Road in Grant Road (East).

Pisal owned a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-licensed vegetable stall on Grant Road, which they had rented out. The income from the rented stall supported their household as Wagh was unemployed.

Police said that the accused stabbed the mother in the neck, chest and hand with a knife.

As per officials, relatives said that the two of them used to frequently fight and quarrel; however, something like this could happen was out of anyone’s imagination.

Due to her age, Pisal often had difficulty sleeping and would engage in household chores at night whereas Wagh had to wake up early to fill the water daily but was unable to sleep early at night due to noises.

On the night of the incident, Pisal’s activities once again woke her son. In a fit of rage, he attacked and killed her. After committing the crime, Wagh went to his nephew in the next room and informed him about the incident. They immediately contacted the police.

After receiving information, a police team reached the spot and rushed Pisal to JJ hospital, where the doctor examined her and pronounced her dead.

The police officials recovered the weapon and found 22 stab wounds on her body, including neck, chest and abdomen. Wagh was arrested on murder charges later on Tuesday, July 9. He has been remanded in police custody.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Pisal had been married twice and had four children from each marriage. Both her husbands and three of her sons had passed away.

The accused, who was born from Pisal’s first marriage, was abandoned by his wife. The house was divided into two parts, one where mother and son, while Pisal’s other son’s family lives in the other section.
