In the bustling metropolis of Mumbai, where the dream of urban living often collides with the harsh reality of exorbitant rents, social media has become a platform for residents to air their grievances and share experiences. A recent post by user Vita, alias @kebabandcoke, sparked a flurry of responses as it highlighted the staggering rental prices in the city.

A lawyer from Mumbai cautioned against renting in the city due to its reputation for high rents, particularly for small living spaces with steep price tags. X user Vita, also known as @kebabandcoke, advised against the high cost of living in Mumbai, suggesting maintaining good relations with parents rather than moving out to achieve independence, as 1 BHK apartments in the city can cost between 50 to 70 thousand rupees.

Posted on 8th June on platform X, the post has garnered over 150,000 views and continues to gain traction. While some commenters expressed disbelief regarding Mumbai’s rental prices, others recommended areas with slightly more affordable rents. Additionally, some individuals drew comparisons between Mumbai’s rental situation and that of Delhi.

An individual commented that the rapid inflation rate is surpassing salary increases, making it challenging for many to afford housing, healthcare and education without being heavily burdened by loans.

Another commenter chimed in, questioning whether the mentioned 70,000 rupees was for rent or as an instalment payment (EMI), noting that either scenario wouldn’t be surprising. They shared an anecdote about a friend paying 100,000 rupees in rent for a 3 BHK apartment in Andheri.

A third person suggested moving to Delhi, where they claimed one could find a furnished 2 BHK apartment for only 9,000 to 10,000 rupees in rent.

Another commenter agreed, stating that rental prices are indeed excessively high.

A fifth individual shared their experience, mentioning that they had previously paid 85,000 rupees for a 2 BHK apartment and are now paying 48,000 rupees for the same. They advised considering changing the locality if possible.
