Mumbai | May 01, 2025: Maharashtra is set to enhance its expressway infrastructure with the development of a high-speed corridor linking the upcoming Vadhavan Port in Palghar to the Nagpur–Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg. This strategic project aims to drastically cut travel time and improve connectivity between western and central Maharashtra.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has greenlit an 85.38 km expressway stretch between Charoti and Igatpuri, which forms part of a broader 118 km route from Vadhavan to Igatpuri. Once completed, the expressway will reduce travel time between these key points to just one hour, benefiting both commuters and freight transport.

Sovil Consultancy Firm has been appointed to prepare the detailed project report (DPR), with preparatory work expected to commence soon. The expressway is designed to serve as a crucial link between the western coast and the state’s interior regions, streamlining the movement of goods and passengers.

The project also complements the development of Vadhavan Port, a major infrastructure initiative spearheaded by the central government. Poised to become India’s largest port, Vadhavan will feature deep-water access of over 20 meters, making it ideal for handling large cargo vessels. The port project involves reclaiming 1,448 hectares of sea to create advanced container handling facilities.

Recognizing the economic and strategic importance of this corridor, MSRDC is working to fast-track approvals to ensure swift commencement of construction. Once operational, the expressway is expected to transform Maharashtra’s transport landscape, significantly boosting trade, logistics, and regional growth.
