Toll Booths to Be Moved Outside Villages; New Satellite-Based Toll System Coming Soon

Nitin Gadkari announced that toll booths will be moved outside villages to avoid disturbing residents. The government is also planning to launch a new toll system using satellite technology (GNSS) along with the existing FASTag system.

This new GNSS toll system will be faster and more transparent. Trials of this technology have already been done on highways in Karnataka and Haryana.

The government is also looking at ways to check and penalize overweight trucks using weight detection at toll plazas. Gadkari said tenders for the new toll system will be issued within 15-20 days, focusing on using Indian technology. This will make toll collection smoother and more convenient for everyone.
