Mumbai, February 24: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a temporary closure of the Old Kasara Ghat section on National Highway No. 3 for road repairs.

Closure Dates & Timings

🛑 Phase 1: February 24 to 27
🛑 Phase 2: March 3 to 6
🕗 Time: 8 AM to 6 PM daily

All vehicles, including heavy and oversized cargo (ODC) trucks, are restricted from using this stretch during these hours. Additionally, ODC vehicles will face 24-hour restrictions on the Mumbai-Nashik and Nashik-Mumbai routes.

To minimize inconvenience, NHAI officials have assured that resurfacing work (laying new bitumen) will be completed this week.

Safety Measures in Place

Authorities have implemented several steps to maintain road safety and smooth traffic flow:

🚑 Medical Assistance: An ambulance with first-aid supplies and medical personnel is stationed at the detour entry point for emergencies.

🚧 Traffic Control:

  • Barricades are placed at key locations (Latifwadi Cut Point & Shivneri Point) to regulate traffic and enforce single-lane movement.
  • Lane Guidance: Plastic cones every 20-30 feet help drivers stay in their designated lanes and prevent accidents.

📢 Clear Signage: Large directional and cautionary signs are positioned 100 meters before diversion points to warn and guide drivers in advance.

Heavy Lifting Equipment: Two 20-ton cranes are on standby at detour entry and exit points to quickly remove breakdowns and prevent congestion.

Alternative Routes for Traffic

To reduce congestion, the Maharashtra State Highway Police has suggested the following routes:

🚗 For General Traffic:

  • Vehicles traveling towards Nashik on NH-3 will be diverted via New Kasara Ghat (near Chintamanwadi police station) between 8 AM and 6 PM.

🚛 For ODC (Oversized Cargo) Vehicles:

  • Nashik to Mumbai: Rerouted via NH-60 (Nashik to Pune), then onto the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
  • Mumbai to Nashik: Take the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, then NH-60 (Pune to Nashik).

Authorities urge motorists to follow the prescribed routes and adhere to traffic rules for a safe and smooth journey. 🚦🚘
